Help rod Designer Sam Druckman battle Acute Lukemia

Sam Drukman

The Angling Trade office received an email from our friend Jim Bartschi at Scott Fly Rods a few days ago with an urgent message about his friend Sam Druckman.

Barrschi said, “You’ve probably heard about this. If you haven’t, Sam is fighting acute Leukemia. If that isn’t hard enough, he was diagnosed without health insurance and treatment for this cancer is very expensive. Sam is a dear friend and colleague who has contributed immensely to fly rod rod design and to the positive experiences of fly anglers around the world. He’s a consummate rod artisan, brilliant musician, and devoted father, husband and friend. I hope our industry can pull together to help Sam and his family through this difficult and frightening time.”

Scott Rods is helping Sam by offering to raffle off  graphite or glass rod of the customer’s choice. Raffle tickets are $20.00 each and can be purchased here.  They will draw a random winner Monday, July 2. All proceeds from the raffle will be donated to the Drukman family fund to help Sam with his medical expenses.

You may know Sam as a good husband, a loving father, a dedicated brother, an amazing artist, a skilled craftsman, a gifted musician, or a great friend. Or, more likely, you know him as many of these things. Sam is a true renaissance man, and those who know him count themselves lucky to do so.

But now he, and his family, face a tough battle.

Not just his battle with leukemia. But also with mounting medical bills. Like so many Americans, Sam did not have health insurance when he became ill, and rather than forgo treatment for his life-threatening illness, Sam and his family sought to fight back against his cancer, with immediate treatment. Treatment that, for the uninsured, is costly. Now, facing mounting medical bills, Sam and his family are asking for your help.

How you can help.

We, his family, have set up a trust, to collect and disburse funds for Sam’s medical bills. Please consider a giving a gift to help defray Sam’s medical expenses, so that he and his family can have one less thing to worry about in this time of crisis.

To give by check, please send whatever you can to:
