We’re planning another blockbuster print issue for March. We’ll be revisiting the topic of pro plans… talking about books and media… more on bridging the conventional-to-fly gap… and getting real with some pointed Q&A with AFFTA chairman Jim Klug.
But we’re building this issue around good news… “Twenty Great Things Happening in Fly Fishing Right Now.” We all know the challenges; it’s time to look at some good news. Here’s a taste:
“Fishwest Fly Shop in Sandy, Utah, recently made donations to three organizations in the Salt Lake City region—The Salt Lake City Mission, The Road Home, and the Boy Scouts of America. In total, Fishwest donated approximately 1000 shirts, 2,500 pairs of socks, as well as jackets and sweaters. They donated 200 pairs of youth sized wading boots to The Boy Scouts of America. The total donation valued around $55,000 dollars.”
Another Bright Spot… The Fly Fishing Film Tour
“Attendance last year was up 43 percent. The Tour gave out over $150,000 worth of gear and trips at the shows (thanks to our sponsors like Costa Del Mar) and raised over $10,000 for Casting for a Cure. They also let conservation groups use the tour and its venues to spread the word and talk to folks about their missions and causes.
The Tour sold the majority of tickets at local fly shops (new initiative last year). Fly shops had the cheapest tickets in all markets, discounted to $12 from $15 (or more)…”
There’s much more coming in March, from great products to great initiatives that support resources, retailers, and the market as a whole. It’s not too late to chime in with an idea by reaching us at [email protected]!
