Congratulations to the Colorado Water Trust www.coloradowatertrust.org and others who collaborated during this past drought-ridden summer to secure water leases that maintained flows in the Yampa River. The effort did a lot to mitigate what would have been severe damage to the fishery, and the story is receiving national attention, including this piece by National Geographic titled, How the Yampa River, and Its Dependents, Survived the Drought of 2012.
Check out the story… it’s an interesting read on water policy and management, and sad to say, our industry will likely encounter these situations more often in the future.
