Starting with the next Angling Trade E-Newsletter, Nick Hoover will be writing about a broad range of digital topics ranging from SEO, social media, website design, and content marketing to help you get the most out of your online presence.
What’s The Story Introduction:
My mentor always berated my designs in an attempt to uncover the story. Before I could even lay my drawings on his desk for review he’d bellow, “What’s the story”. I’d then have to convince him this design was different than all the others. I’d pull back the curtain and reveal the inner workings of my design, the characters, the plot, and the overall theme. Each design was like a chapter, illustrating a unique piece of the complete story. At first it seems odd to think of design as a story, but it helps organize concepts and push boundaries. This logic stuck with me throughout my career and I still practice it today.
It turns out story-telling can be used in a lot of amazing ways to grow your business. With that in mind I’ll be writing a monthly article for Angling Trade that focuses on discovering the story of your business and what makes you different. My goal for the column is to explore a range of marketing-related subjects, and to showcase how to use current tools to discover your story and build lasting relationships with clients and customers. I’ll be probe topics such as SEO, social media, website design, recent industry news, and content marketing to help you learn the basics of effective marketing. I’ll also be reporting on news in the graphic design industry that directly impacts your outdoor industry.
I founded Niby Design Group in 2007, with the goal of delivering compelling marketing solutions for businesses based in the outdoor industry. At Niby we believe in creating stories that connect our clients to their customers. I also helped create The Greenbacks, an energetic group of young leaders dedicated to promoting and conserving native fish and recruiting the next generation of Trout Unlimited Members based in Colorado. We’ve tapped into a great market of people here in Colorado by engaging them with creative events and in-turn building a solid community.
I’m excited to be writing for Angling Trade and I hope you’ll find what I have to say helpful. I’d like to ask if you have any thoughts for what you’d like me to write about- email me at nick@nibydesigngroup or put them in the comments below.
