From RBFF & AFFTA:

AFFTA has been working with the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation (RBFF) to provide a “fly” specific icon on Take Me Fishing™ Places to Boat & Fish Map interactive map.

The Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation (RBFF), in partnership with the American Fly Fishing Trade Association (AFFTA), is pleased to be able to offer your business/organization a free benefit thanks to your AFFTA membership – placement on the Take Me Fishing™ Places to Boat & Fish Map as a point of interest. We hope that placement of so many fly fishing businesses/organizations on the Places to Boat & Fish Map will help support AFFTA’s mission to promote the sustained growth of the fly-fishing industry by providing consumers with access to and knowledge of fly fishing products and services close to them. Below you will find additional information about the map. Please do not hesitate to reach out to RBFF Manager of Strategic Partnerships, Rachel Auslander, with any questions: [email protected].

All current AFFTA members will be added to this resource unless you request to opt-out by contacting Callie Bassett [email protected] by December 15, 2013.

RBFF’s mission – to increase participation in recreational angling and boating and thereby increase public awareness and appreciation of the need to protect, conserve and restore this nation’s aquatic natural resources – closely aligns with AFFTA’s strategic objectives. RBFF’s consumer campaign, Take Me Fishing, and the campaign’s website, TakeMeFishing.org, work to create awareness around boating, fishing and conservation, and educates people about the benefits of participation. Take Me Fishing helps boaters and anglers of all ages and experience levels learn, plan and equip for a day on the water.

Thank you for all you do to help get people out on the water, each and every day!

Sincerely,
Frank Peterson

PLACES TO BOAT & FISH MAP

Q: What is the goal of the map?

A: The goal of the Take Me Fishing Places to Boat & Fish map is to provide users with a simple, more intuitive experience, focused on planning boating and fishing trips, and sharing advice/experiences.

Q: Where can I find the map?

A: The map can be found on the desktop and mobile versions of TakeMeFishing.org, as well as on 60+ partner websites that host the embeddable widget version of the map. Direct link to the map: http://takemefishing.org/community/places-to-boat-and-fish/.

Q: What features will consumers see on the map?
A: The Places to Boat and Fish Map will help consumers search, plan and share with these easy-to-use features:
– A large, scalable map that geo-locates to the user’s computer or mobile device
– A simplified search option, allowing users to search by city, state, zip, body of water, or point of interest
– Detailed body of water profiles, with information on fish species, nearby places of interest (like restaurants, lodging, and gas), fishing forecasts, as well as user-generated comments, photos and fishing hotspots
– Species information, including suggested fishing methods, and baits and lures

Q: What type of information will I find on the map?
A: The Places to Boat and Fish Map has several types of information, under two different categories: bodies of water and points of interest. Bodies of water consist of both public and private bodies of water across the United States. Bodies of water will include information on fish species, nearby places of interest, fishing forecasts, as well as user-generated comments, photos and fishing hotspots. Points of interest consist of boating- and fishing-related businesses and facilities across the United States, such as lodging, restaurants, gas stations, boat ramps, marinas, parks, bait shops, outfitters, charters, campgrounds, and fishing license vendors. With the addition of AFFTA members, Take Me Fishing will be adding a new point of interest specific to fly shops and guides.

Q: Why should I list my business/organization on the map?

A: Listing your fly fishing-related business/organization on the map will bring free exposure to your business/organization for those consumers looking for fly fishing shops, guides, lodges, outfitters. In FY2013, Take Me Fishing’s Places to Boat & Fish Map had over 3 million unique visitors, meaning there is potential for many more eyes to be exposed to your fly fishing-related business/organization by listing on the Places to Boat & Fish Map.

Q: Now that my business/organization is listed on the map, how can we leverage the map?

A: RBFF offers a free embeddable version of the Places to Boat and Fish Map that can be placed on partner websites. The embeddable version offers all the same great bodies of water and points of interest information and search capabilities as the TakeMeFishing.org desktop version, providing partners’ customers an interactive way to plan for a day on the water. Even better, the partner’s customers never leave their site. Current partners find the map to be a great value-add to their website. The embeddable version of the map is free and easy to install with a short block of code. Interested partners should contact Rachel Auslander at Take Me Fishing for details: [email protected].
