From Costa:
Costa Sunglasses released Hamlin, the first of its 2014 new styles, to kick off the new year. Hamlin is named for Capt. Ron Hamlin, the legendary angler who’s released more than 27,000 billfish throughout his career and helped revolutionize sport fishing through his early adoption of circle hooks.
In his honor, Costa’s Hamlin style features tough, durable features, including co-injected nylon molded frames, sturdy integral hinges and no-slip Hydrolite™ nose pads and temple tips. The extra-large fit features a wrap shape to protect against incoming glare. Frame colors available now include tortoise, matte black, blackout, white, and in late spring, Realtree® Xtra® Camo.
Costa’s Hamlin is available in its patented 580™ lens technology, which blocks yellow light from entering the eye, creating razor sharp color enhancement and achieves the highest polarization level possible. The lenses eliminate reflective glare and protect against harmful UV rays.
Available in 580G (glass) or 580P (plastic), lens colors include gray, amber, copper, blue mirror, green mirror and silver mirror. It’s also available in Costa’s specialty sunrise lens color, ideal for low light situations, such as fishing or hunting at dusk or dawn.
Costa sunglasses are custom built and hand assembled in Daytona Beach, Fla. and come with a lifetime warranty against manufacturer’s defect. Hamlin is also available in Costa’s Rx sun lenses, which offer a one-year warranty.
“Hamlin is a core Costa style, built to withstand rugged adventures and harsh fishing conditions,” said Chas MacDonald, president of Costa Sunglasses. “We invest heavily in our technology to build the best performing, most comfortable sunglasses on the planet, and we’re excited about the variation of styles you’ll see in 2014.”
Legendary bluewater boat captain, fishing pioneer and IGFA Captains Hall of Fame member Ron Hamlin, was one of the first proponents for the use of circle hooks when billfishing to reduce catch and release mortality rates, a practice that is now the standard around the world, and mandatory in many tournaments. In addition to releasing more than 27,000 billfish over the course of his career, he often was one of The Billfish Foundations top taggers, with more than 11,000 billfish tagged, 20 with satellite tags. Hamlin also pioneered the use of specially prepared rigged baits for higher trolling speeds and tactics for targeting billfish on fly.
Hamlin starts in retail price at $169 and is available at authorized Costa outlets and online at www.costadelmar.com.

For Costa, conservation is all about sustainable fishing. Many fisheries that should be vibrant and healthy are all but devoid of native fish because they have fallen victim to poor fishing practices, unregulated development, lack of watershed protection or all of the above. Costa works with partners around the world to help increase awareness and influence policy so that both the fish and fishermen of tomorrow will have healthy waters to enjoy. Costa encourages others to help in any way they can.
