From Dr. Slick:
Twelve inch clamps or hemostats, designed to keep stray fingers away from the jaws of toothy fish while unhooking flies and lures, are now available from Dr. Slick Instruments for Anglers.
The foot-long clamps were designed by the Montana-based manufacturer for removing fishing hooks from northern pike, musky, bluefish, sharks, barracuda, and other targets that can make short work of an angler’s fingers. “Our new Dr. Slick 12-inch clamps will allow an angler to remove lures with oversize treble hooks, flies with stingers and all others from a safe distance as well as getting to deeply hooked flies and lures,” said Steve Fournier, president.
The longer clamps, made from 410 J2 Stainless Steel with a Rockwell Hardness of 42, are also earmarked for ice fishing, surf fishing and any place that distance is needed.
The new “foot-longs” are available in straight and curved jaws with either a gold loop or all black finish. Suggested retail price is $25 for either model or color.
Also new for 2016 are 8-inch Long Range Mitten Scissor Clamps. Rather than “loops” to hold the angler’s thumb and forefinger, mitten clamps are grasped by an angler’s entire hand, allowing single-handed operation. They come with built-in scissors and attached wrist lanyard. The Long Range Mitten Scissor Clamps are available in a gold band or all-black finish. Suggested retail is $25.
But perhaps the biggest news from for fly tiers is that all models of Dr. Slick Razor Scissors are now available with one of the blades serrated. According to the company’s pro-staffers that worked on the modified scissors, “These are the sharpest scissor blades ever produced by Dr. Slick and now, with serrations for better hold and cutting, they make short, clean work of both synthetic and naturals materials.” Scissors are made from 440 Stainless Steel with a Rockwell Hardness of 55.
Razor Scissors with one serrated and one non-serrated blade in Dr. Slick’s distinctive gold finish are available in 4- and 5-inch versions as well as a 4-inch bent shaft model. The 4-inch scissors have a suggested retail price of $31; 5-inch scissors are $32.
Dr. Slick Instruments for Anglers was founded in 1989 by a Montana-based physician and surgeon. Now owned and operated by employees, the firm currently produces more than 300 fly tying and fishing products and accessories including scissors, line nippers, clamps, retractors, net holders, tying tools and pliers.
