Hardy Zane Pro Rod and Ultradisc UDLA Reel Take ICAST Honors

From Pure Fishing:

ICAST awarded its 2020 best-in-category awards this week with legacy fly-fishing company Hardy taking home honors in two prestigious categories. The stunning Hardy Zane Pro was selected as best fly rod for 2020, while the incredibly light Hardy Ultradisc UDLA reel with its specially designed line guard was chosen as best reel. Both the Zane Pro and Ultradisc UDLA will be available to consumers this September.

“The ICAST Awards are great validation that all of our hard work, planning, research and development were on target,” said Jim Murphy, director of fly fishing for Hardy. “The Zane Pro continues Hardy’s legacy as one of the premier saltwater rod brands in the world. In testing, this rod was responsible for both several world-record tarpon catches and a second-place finish in the Hawley Tarpon Tournament in Islamorada, Florida, and will no doubt be a must-have for serious fly fishers. The Ultradisc UDLA sets a new standard in reel weight and offers anglers in the exploding euro-nymphing segment a product that delivers line security and performance needed to chase trophy trout that no one else can offer. There’s no doubt that fly fishers will be incredibly pleased with these products and the rest of the fly offerings when they visit their local shops this fall.”

The Hardy Zane Pro is the flagship fast-action rod for big game fly fishers. The aerospace-grade carbon and SINTRIX 440 resin system maximizes the performance and durability of the rod. Redesigned mandrels and pattern layups add more strength to the stout backbone of the Zane Pro. A hard anodized, double up-lock reel seat adds further protection from harsh elements and aggressive gamefish. The Zane Pro will be available in one-piece eight through 12 rod weights and four-piece configurations in six through 12 rod weights.

The Ultradisc UDLA is the lightest reel ever built by Hardy. It’s lightweight attributes and spool and line guide design make it the perfect choice for euro-nymphing anglers. The unregulated disc drag system allows for fine drag adjustment in nearly any scenario and does not allow even the thinnest line and leader rigs to slip between the spool and frame. The reel is not only backed by Hardy’s 148-year history but was also designed by current FIPS World Champion and Hardy designer Howard Croston. The Ultradisc UDLA will be available in three through 12 weight line configurations, making it suitable for a multitude of applications outside of euro-nymphing as well.
