From Boulder Boat Works:
This year the Boulder Boat Works team has made a concerted effort to volunteer their time, expertise & products to support the introduction of fly-fishing programming designed specifically to provide therapy and rehabilitation to active and veteran military personnel.
As fly fisherman & women, we all know the therapeutic benefits of floating down a river with a fly rod in our hands. There is scientific evidence that time spent outdoors provides a balance in melatonin levels and supports a healthier and happier outlook. The intention of this philanthropic focus is to share these benefits with those who chose to make mental and physical sacrifices.
Boulder Boat Works is enthusiastic to be partnering with two amazing non-profit organizations to promote fly fishing as an impactful rehabilitation process. The connections with both Project Healing Waters and Challenge Aspen: CAMO open doors to actively participate in programming that has direct influence on getting a fly rod in the hands of military personnel.
Every year one of Boulder Boat Works favorite clients (who is also on the board for Project Healing Waters Southern Rockies: Denver Chapter) develops a destination fly fishing package to a legendary western trout stream which is auctioned off at their annual fundraising gala. This year the package trip was on the South Fork of the Snake River in Southeastern Idaho. The package this year included 3 days of guided float fishing, lodging & F&B. This package along with the various other fundraising events for the Denver Chapter has raised over $600,000 for Project Healing Waters. Boulder Boatworks was honored to be able to donate a Low Side Pro Guide Boat & Guide (our Director of Operations) for this year’s trip and looks forward to participating in many more future events to support the Project Healing Waters mission.
Challenge Aspen’s CAMO programs are designed to give veterans and active-duty armed forces with a service-connected disability the chance to renew their camaraderie, climb out of their comfort zones, and return home with new skills and a fresh positive outlook on life. This organization is located here in the Roaring Fork Valley, about 30 miles from our production facility and specializes in adaptive experiences for individuals with physical and cognitive disabilities. Their programming includes skiing/snowboarding, archery, horseback riding, yoga and fly fishing. This year’s fly fishing program is a 3 day immersive experience that invites active and veteran personnel to Basalt for a comprehensive retreat designed to increase fly fishing skills, knowledge and welcome veterans to the pristine Gold Medal Waters of the Roaring Fork Valley for an unforgettable fishing experience. The program will conclude with a float down the Roaring Fork River in Boulder Boat Works dories!
The goal of these programs is to continue to open the doors to the experiences and fulfillment that fly fishing brings all of us.
