From Western Rivers:

Western Rivers Conservancy announced today that it seeks an extraordinary leader to build on the organization’s 35-year history of purchasing and permanently protecting land along the great rivers of the West. WRC’s co-founder and long-time president, Sue Doroff, has announced that she will be retiring.

“Leaving WRC is difficult beyond words, but the moment is right,” said Doroff. “WRC is stronger and more capable today than at any time in its history. Whoever takes the oars will have the rare opportunity to lead an organization that is making a true difference for the rivers of the American West.”

Guided by its motto, “Sometimes to save a river, you have to buy it,” WRC purchases land along the West’s finest rivers and streams to conserve habitat and create public access for all to enjoy. Its land acquisition approach to conservation allows the organization to deliver tangible and permanent results for the benefit of fish, wildlife and people.

The new president, reporting to the board of directors, will be responsible for the organization’s overall fiscal, programmatic and operational health. They will be a savvy dealmaker who is experienced in complex real estate transactions and possesses the business acumen required to successfully navigate complex political landscapes. As WRC’s leader, the president will inspire the organization’s board, staff and funders around WRC’s mission in the context of a results-oriented culture with a laser-like focus on river conservation.

“The beauty of working at Western Rivers Conservancy,” said WRC’s board chair, Jim Smith, “is that you get to see the tangible impact you’re making every time we conserve a stretch of river, and know that it will be protected for generations.”

To facilitate its search for the next president, WRC has retained Potrero Group, a national strategy and search firm. Information about the position and how to apply can be found on the Potrero Group website. Interested candidates should apply by September 11, 2023 for priority consideration.
