We are excited to announce that Chris King has joined the travel department here at The Fly ShopⓇ. Chris brings a wealth of knowledge with him from years of guiding and teaching casting schools and conducting casting certifications all over the world with the International Federation of Fly Casting.
Chris King was introduced to fly fishing at a young age. During his high school years in New Jersey he traveled the eastern seaboard in search of trout with his father. Taking a semester off of college he spent 8 years in Colorado where he turned his passion into a career. Guiding was something that he loved and spent a lot of time in the Rockies from New Mexico to Montana.
Living, guiding and fishing in Colorado and being an overall fishing / skiing bum in his 20’s, Chris has extensive knowledge of the waters in the Rockies like the San Juan, South Platte, Colorado, Gunnison, Roaring Fork, Arkansas, and north into Idaho, Wyoming and Montana on waters like the South Fork of the Snake, Henry’s Fork, Maddison, Gallatin, Missouri, Yellowstone and the Big Horn. Just to name a few.
Fun fact – Chris has been to all 50 states in the great nation.
From there he made his way West where in 1998 he found a home at The Fly ShopⓇ in Redding, CA. Chris met Mel Krieger and was mentored by him for 6 years in fly casting and casting instruction. This led to the pursuit of becoming a certified casting instructor with the International Federation of Fly Fishers. He is currently Master Certified, Two Hand Master Certified and an emeritus member of the organization’s Casting Board of Governs. During his time here at the Shop he has hosted several trips to destinations like BC, the Yucatan, Florida, Montana and Alaska. Chris resides in Redding with his wife and two children and has been guiding and teaching casting in Northern California for over 20 years. He continues to exhibit the same passion for sharing his love for the outdoors and fly fishing as he did in his first year of guiding back in Colorado so many years ago.
- “ I am excited to share my passion for this sport and look forward to the next chapter as I help others design their dream fishing trips.” – Chris King
