Titanium in Fly Rods? Why Not?

Epic has never shied away from shaking tree when it comes to fly rod designs and materials. Fair to say, the company’s Reference FastGlass series has made a cult following amongst many of us who had almost dismissed fiberglass as a relic, or a funky niche for traditionalists who craved a super-slow action. I, for one, changed my tune, and am a firm believer.

Now, Epic touts its now “Ti Carbon Fiber Fly Rod Series” as the “future of fly fishing.”

By blending aerospace-grade titanium with high modulus carbon fiber, apparently they’ve landed on something that’s precise, sensitive, light, yet tougher than saddle leather over the long, um, haul.

From Epic:

“Every element of the Ti Series is built for performance and longevity. Corrosion-proof titanium stripping guides with ultra-smooth Torzite inserts, stainless steel PVD-coated snake guides, Flor-grade cork grips, and hard-anodized tri reel seats — each component carefully chosen to deliver flawless function and endure a lifetime on the water.

“Titanium reinforcement resists impacts, stress, and fatigue for long-term reliability. Whether you’re stalking trout in high-altitude streams or chasing saltwater monsters, the Ti series fly rods give you the confidence to fish harder, longer, and with total control.”

We’re Jonezing to try one… and we’ll tell you what we really think when we do, over at Flylab. www.flylab.fish
