AFFTA’s partnership with the Bissell Insurance Agency can provide coverage for guides and outfitters in all 50 states. The policy, sponsored by AFFTA, is $400 per year for $1 million per occurrence liability/$2 million aggregate. It is not based on gross receipts or payroll, and will not fluctuate as your business grows.
Art Hoffart at Bissell can also insure lodges, and wrote policies for an estimated 20 lodges last year in Montana, Utah, and Alaska.
In short, Art can offer:
• Guide and outfitter liability coverage for a cost of $400
• Equipment coverage for guides and outfitters: boats, motors, tackle, gear of any kind
• Dealer/rep programs, including liability and property coverage (sample coverage included)
• Lodge coverage in all 50 states
• Fly shops in all states
• Commercial auto
• Manufacturers
Basically, if it’s related to the fishing industry, Bissell can insure it. Art notes he has other coverage that can be added as well to a guide’s fishing policy. For example, hunting can be added for a mere $200/year if a fishing guide takes people out hunting as well.
Bissell policies are a flat rate… there will be NO premium increase as your sales or revenue increases.
Art says, “I have been in the insurance business since 1980. This is all I do. I have been specialized on one segment or another for insurance in the outdoors-type risks for over 25 years. Currently have insured lots of fly fishing shops, guides, lodges, manufacturers, etc. related to the fishing business in states from Florida to Alaska.”
