Just in time for some serious winter fishing, Patagonia is out with a new base layer combo—the R2 TechFace Pullover and R2 TechFace Pants.

Here’s the skinny…

The R2 TechFace Pullover combines a hoody’s comfort and wear-everywhere vibes with Patagonia’s technical fleece layering expertise. It features stretchy, not-too-heavy, not-too-light R2 TechFace material that blocks wind and sheds moisture. The front zip makes venting easy, and the hood fits over a ballcap. The pullover features a front kangaroo pocket that sits above the waistline and wader belt to keep hands warm between swings and drifts. The zippered chest pocket fits a fly box and is positioned for easy access.

The R2 TechFace fabric is so functional we didn’t stop at a hoody. The R2 TechFace Pants use the same material package as the hoody and feature abrasion-resistant overlays and tapered ankle cuffs for easy on-off and a stay-put fit. The water-shedding durable water repellent (DWR) finish is made without intentionally added perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs/PFAS). The two deep pockets make these pants as suited for post-fish power lounging as they are for a day on the water.

“We pride ourselves on creating durable, hardworking gear that performs effortlessly on and off the water,” said Nicole Labrie, Patagonia’s Global Product Line Manager for Fly Fishing. “Our TechFace pieces define those values. This is serious fly gear engineered to work intuitively without sacrificing warmth, comfort or durability. They’re also great daily drivers. They do it all.”
