The Classic Sporting Art of Bob White
The long-awaited collection of fly fishing and wingshooting art by artist, author, and guide Bob White. This signed hardcover book is a collection of 246 images representing some of Bob’s best work from the past four decades. Subjects include scenes of fresh and saltwater fly fishing, upland and waterfowl hunting, game fish, game birds, sporting dogs, both in the field and in portrait, and landscapes of sporting environs from Alaska to Patagonia and points between. The compilation also includes traditional sporting still life paintings and renderings. Members of Trout Unlimited and readers of Fly Rod & Reel will be familiar with many of the images in the book, as they have illustrated John Gierach’s columns for the last 28 years.
All of the images in the book are annotated with descriptions explaining the story behind the work; the inspiration, history, and location. Scattered throughout the volume, like shaded benches in a sculpture garden, are numerous sidebars which explain and describe the painting process.
In addition to the artwork and instructional sidebars, there are ten of Bob’s favorite illustrated essays, most of which have been published in various sporting journals and outdoor publications.
Introductions by John Gierach and Don Thomas lead into fishing and wingshooting sections, respectively. The foreword is written by Tom Rosenbauer.
